Ring Report
October 18, 2009

Minutes for this meeting.

The theme for the October meeting was Pizza Parlor Magic, or anything you can do in a parlor setting (they do call them pizza parlors). Members showed off a variety of ideas and effects that can be done in a small room or at the table.

Gary Jewell began with a delightful card presentation in which a small compass was able to discover a spectator's card. No matter how often the cards were shuffled or cut, the spectator's card was revealed accurately. Prashant Srivastava showed off a number of effects specifically designed for the iPhone. Cards were revealed, made to rise, predicted and otherwise manipulated all in the confines of the little electronic box. Gary Jewell seemed unimpressed. "It's a computer! It can do anything!" he was heard to say.

Just back from KIDabra, Danny Baker showed off some of the great props he was able to pick up for very reasonable prices. These included some great printed silks, a set of Fakini billiard balls and a very nice illusion in which he appeared to divide his arm into two sections. The tube was hinged and swung open to reveal the sinister blades within. Once the tube was rejoined with the blades removed, Danny's arm emerged unharmed.

Professor Miller reprised a coin routine that he had done at the August meeting and explained it for the interested participants. This one remains a work in progress as are many of the effects presented. The real value of a Ring meeting then showed itself as members swapped observations and suggestions for improvements in technique and performance.
